They Know us by Our Love

In Matthew 22 (of the Holy Bible) Jesus is asked: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" To this He replies, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Clearly, love (and forgiveness) is central to Jesus' teachings.

Also, in Matthew 10:16, Jesus states, "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as a serpent and as gentle as a dove. Clearly, the Lord knew that to survive and prosper here, the battle must be fought with love and forgiveness. And how different this is from other "religions" of the world.

Regardless, the fact still remains that the daily battles in life need to fought with love and forgivenss. How many times in fact do I forgive a wrong today just to find that I "pick it back up" at a later date. And I do so unknowingly, even unwillingly as the sting of past hurts and regrets linger still. In Romans (the Holy Bible), the apostle Paul states, "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do ... now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

So as a Chrstian, the solution to our sin problem (hate, envy, murder, strife, etc.) is to keep our eyes on Christ Jesus.

Does this mean I'll be perfect? Ha ... no way ... I wish it did! I wish I could love longer, forgive quicker and be the best friend, relative and collegue I can be. But (as the Apostle Paul states), thanks be to God! For through Him alone there is grace and a second chance at all of it. Only God can restore your broken relationships with your kids, your mother, your father. And only God can help heal you from the addiction. And your mental and physical health will be better for it!
